Without a shadow of a doubt Finidi George has proven that he is qualified to become the next Super Eagles coach if Jose Peseiro leaves.

Finidi George stamped his name in the history of Nigerian football after leading Enyimba to their ninth league title following the conclusion of the Super 6.

Just as several indigenous coaches have been given the chance to handle the national team, Finidi should also move up the ladder in his coaching career.

On the other hand, current Super Eagles handler Jose Peseiro’s contract is set to expire at the end of June and there could be possibilities a new deal will not be offered to the Portuguese coach due to poor strings of results.

Being part of the Super Eagles coaching crew, Finidi is arguably the number one candidate for the job for obvious reasons.

These are reasons Finidi should be the next coach of the national team according to PulseSports writer Akan Anwankwo

1. Proven track record as player and coach

Enyimba’s league victory under the tutelage of Finidi proved that the former Nigerian winger has started his coaching career on a high after just two years in charge.

As a player, Finidi’s best career was during his spell with Ajax where he played a major role in winning the Champions League in 1995.

Every bit of his qualification speaks for itself and the Nigerian Football Federation should make considerations when hiring a new coach.

2. He will command respect from players

A player of Finidi’s calibre will command respect from the younger generation of Super Eagles stars because of the things he has done as a player.

Winning the Champions League, the Eredivisie, the Dutch Cup and the Club World Cup is not an easy feat for any player.

Finidi was also regarded as the best No.7 in the world ahead of Luis Figo during his first season with La Liga club Real Betis

The laurels come with respect and would serve as motivation for the players currently in the national team.

3. Integrating home based players into the Super Eagles first team

In the last few years, home-based players have not been given the opportunity to have a place in the Super Eagles squad.

Gernor Rohr and Jose Peseiro have not done enough to encourage players in the Nigeria Professional Football League to show their talent with the foreign based.

Finidi started to feature in Clemens Westerhof’s Super Eagles while he was playing for Sharks of Port-Harcourt and had a permanent shirt on the right wing while on international duties.

And with his experience in the domestic league, players will stand a chance in fighting for shirts with their foreign colleagues.
