FOOTBALL 2023 AFCON Q: USA' based Kasule, Ssebuufu make Cranes squad as Lwanga, Mugabi bounce back ahead of Niger clash

The Serbian tactician has included the New York Red Bulls II pair of Owen Baba Kasule and forward Frank Ssebuufu.

Uganda Cranes head coach Multin Micho Sredejovic has summoned a provisional 33-man squad ahead of the final AFCON qualifier against Niger.

The duo has been in top form for Ibrahim Ssekagya's side in the MLS Next Pro League, especially Owen Baba Kasule, who scored five in five in July, adding an assist in as many games.

Also returning to the squad are combative midfielder Taddeo Lwanga, centre-back Bevis Mugabi and Elvis Bomwono.

Lwanga, currently at Rwandan side APR FC last featured for the Cranes during the 2022 AFCON Qualifiers, while Bevis Mugabi, now attached to Motherwell FC in Scotland, has been struggling with injuries but is now fit.

The Uganda Cranes, pooled in Group F, must win their final 2023 AFCON qualifier against Niger and hope that Tanzania loses to Algeria for them to seal qualification to the 2023 AFCON tournament.

The game will be played on September 7th at the Grand Marrakech stadium in Morocco.
