Mike Tyson urges Anthony Joshua to continue fighting if he wants to be a 3-time heavyweight champion

American former professional boxer Michael 'Mike' Tyson has offered advice to English professional boxer of Nigerian descent Anthony Joshua.

Joshua is now a contender in the heavyweight division after back-to-back losses to Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk.

The former champion was once on top of the division with the IBF, IBO, WBA, and WBO belts and now has none.

Joshua is down in the pecking order while the attention of teh heavyweight division shifts to a potential undisputed fight between Usyk and WBC champion Tyson Fury.

Tyson a former undisputed heavyweight champion is in Saudi Arabia for the mega cruiserweight fight between internet sensations Tommy Fury and Jake Paul.

At the press briefing for the fight, Tyson spoke to Boxing Social about the state of the heavyweight division.

Tyson backed Fury to rule the heavyweight division for a while stating that Usyk poses no threat should an undisputed fight be agreed upon.

The 56-year-old former champion then discussed Joshua’s journey back to the top.

He implored Joshua to keep fighting and try as much as possible to get better rather than staying idle.

Tyson said, “He has a lot of talent, and shouldn’t get discouraged. He only loses when he quits. When you quit, all the doors of opportunities close.

“Don’t get discouraged when you lose. You just made 30 million dollars! Don’t internalise it.”

“The more you lay off, the worse you get. To be the best, you have to fight constantly and do it more and more.”

Joshua aims to start a new unbeaten run following back-to-back losses to Usyk. He returns against American Jermaine Franklin at the 02 Arena on Saturday, April 1, 2023.
