African Boxing Confederation (ABC) Men's and Women's Boxing Championships are set to be hosted in Cameroon.

The Africa Boxing Championships, initially set for Tuesday 13 to Friday 23 June, have been pushed a week later, the African Boxing Confederation (ABC) president Bertrand Mendouga has revealed.

In a letter addressed to all general secretaries of the member associations, Mendouga disclosed that the changes were made to accommodate working visits made by International Boxing Commission project co-ordinator Vitalli Shilnikov on June 1 with the tournament now set for Wednesday, June 21 - Monday, July 3.

All the participating nations will be expected to arrive in Yaounde, Cameroon, before Thursday, June 22, with the first boxers scheduled to be on the ring on Saturday, June 24 after completing registrations.

"Consequently, the planned training courses will be held on the following dates: Training of International Technical Officials courses: June 27-30, 2023 IBA 1 and 2-star R/J courses: June 21 to July 02, 2023," Menounga added.

Kenya is among the countries expected to participate in the tournament alongside more than 26 countries that have so far confirmed their participation in the annual event.

In the last edition hosted in Madagascar, Kenya sent eight boxers to the championship. The Hit Squad took home four medals and was 12th overall, with two silvers for men's and one for the women's category.

Meanwhile, Comoros have confirmed that they will host next year's Zone 4 Championships in April 2024.

"We had a very successful meeting with the Africa Boxing Confederation delegation led by my brother Mendouga (Bertrand) and we agreed to host the tournament," said Comoros Boxing Federation President Mohamed Abdou Mbechezi.

"They toured hotels and all the proposed venues which the AFBC delegation approved. It was a great honour to welcome President Mendouga and his team to our country.

"We still need the support of AFBC and IBA especially on equipment and empowering us technically. We're delighted by their announcement that during Zone 4 a Star One course for coaches and R/J will take place concurrently with the tournament."
