A nineteen-year-old who made his debut in the senior category at the just-concluded World Championships in Budapest, Hungary features big in Cheruiyot's vision.

2019 World 1500m champion Timothy Cheruiyot has lauded trailblazing youngsters Reynold Cheruiyot and Vincent Keter for their resilience in striving hard to make a mark in the 1500m race.

Cheruiyot said they do not pose a threat to him and he is in fact proud of them for their remarkable performances at such a young age.

Reynold, just at 19, made his debut in the senior category at the just-concluded World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. He made it to the final and finished eighth in the hotly contested race.

On his part, Keter is the former Word Under-20 1500m champion. He is 21 years old at the moment and has also competed with the senior athletes in most of his races and done well.

He is yet to make it to the senior category either at the World Championships or Olympic Games but the youngster is definitely destined for greatness.

“Reynold Cheruiyot and Vincent Keter come from my area and I’m happy about them and their exploits on global stages. They are coming up well and I hope I am motivating them well enough,” Cheruiyot told Pulse Sports.

He added that when he transitions to the longer distance races, they will be able to replace him and continue raising the country’s flag high in the category.

He noted that he might switch to the 5000m after the Olympic Games but for now, he shall remain rooted in the 1500m.

“I will transition very soon and I want them to continue making a mark in the 1500m. I might move up to the 5000m after the Olympic Games,” he said.
