A surreal moment for Nigerian 800m record holder, Edose Ibadin as he goes back to his high school to gift the track students running spikes.

Nigerian Record holder in the 800m, Edose Ibadin, has given back to his alma mater DuVal High School, gifting them new spikes for the remaining indoor season and upcoming outdoor session.

The middle-distance runner posted this on his Twitter page, stating doing the philanthropic work was surreal moment for him.

"Surreal moment: Where it all started for me," Ibadin shared on Twitter."

"Went back to my old high school (DuVal High School) and gifted the kids with some new spikes for the remaining Indoor and Upcoming outdoor season," he wrote.

Who is Edose Ibadin?

Ibadin specializes in the 800m and middle distance events. He finished seventh in the event at the 2018 African Championships and competed at the 2017 World Championships, the 2019 African Games, and the 2019 World Championships.

Edose Ibadin has been Nigeria's best middle distance runner since 2017

He is Nigeria's outdoor 800m record holder with 1:44.81 and indoor record holder in the 600m, 800m, and 1000m, making him the best middle-distance runner in Nigerian history.

The 30-year-old ran collegiately for Hampton University and then attended graduate school at Townson University from 2016 to 2018, while training with the District Track Club.

In 2016, he competed at the 2016 US Olympic trials as 'unattached' before changing his allegiance to Nigeria.

Ibadin in the 2023 season so far

He made a strong start to the 2023 indoor season, racing to 1000m NR of 2:20.34 to finish second in the event, breaking his own NR of 2:22.42 in the process.

Ibadin has been off competing actively in the athletics scene for over a year, so coming back with this record-breaking form is very impressive.

The middle-distance runner has his goal of rewriting the record books in all middle-distance events in Nigeria.
