Omolara Ogunmakinju won another gold medal for Nigeria in the women's 4x400m on the last day of athletics at the African Games.

The 13th African Games in Ghana ended as a memorable one for Team Nigeria and for one of its star athletes Omolara Ogunmakinju, who anchored the women's 4x400m squad to the country's last athletics gold medal.

Ogunmakinju became a Nigerian media darling on Day 2 of athletics at the African Games after she outran a Botswanan 30m gap to turn silver into a gold medal in the mixed 4x400m relays.

The incredible feat went viral and is highly categorized as one of the greatest comebacks in a relay race ever.

And on the last day, the veteran quarter-miler and mother of two avoided any comebacks from her opponents, maintaining the glorious lead from her team members Esther Elo Joseph, Patience George, and Brittany Ogunmokun, to bring home the baton in a brilliant 40m gap and Season's Best of 3:27.29.

Ogunmakinju and her teammates defeated Zambia, who settled for the silver medal in a National Record of 3:31.85, while Botswana was third in 3:33.44.

Meanwhile, their male counterparts of Emmanuel Ojeli, Samson Nathaniel, Adeyemi Sikiru, and Chidi Okezie finished third in 3:01.84 - the fastest time by a Nigerian team since 2004.

Zambia won the gold medal courtesy of a 43.52s split by Muzala Samukonga in a Games Record of 2:59.12, ahead of Botswana's 2:59.32.

Team Nigeria reigned supreme in athletics, ending the African Games on top of the medals table with 11 Gold, 6 Silver, and 5 Bronze medals.
