Victor Osimhen is eyeing Champions League glory with Galatasaray against Juventus

Victor Osimhen is on the brink of making history as Galatasaray prepare for a crucial UEFA Champions League playoff clash against Juventus.

The Nigerian striker is closing in on a long-standing club record while urging his teammates to deliver a flawless performance.

Osimhen chases Yilmaz’s European record

Osimhen has netted six goals in six Champions League appearances for Okan Buruk’s side this season, putting him within touching distance of becoming Galatasaray’s highest scorer in a single campaign in the competition.

The current record is held by Burak Yilmaz, who scored eight goals in nine matches during the 2012/13 season. Osimhen now needs just two more goals across the two-legged tie to equal that tally — and three to stand alone in the club’s history books.

Beyond Europe, the 27-year-old has also been prolific domestically, scoring nine goals in 16 league outings this term. Galatasaray will host the first leg at RAMS Park before travelling to Turin for the decisive return fixture next week, with a place in the Round of 16 at stake.

Osimhen charges squad ahead of Juventus game

Ahead of the showdown, Osimhen acknowledged the magnitude of facing the Serie A giants but insisted Galatasaray are determined to grow on the continental stage.

“We are trying to grow on the international stage; we have signed other high-level players, and we want to achieve a good result in the Champions League,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“We are a well-known club in Turkey, but now we want to make our mark in Europe as well. Facing a top-level club like Juventus will be exciting.”

However, the Super Eagles star delivered a clear warning: “We know we can’t afford to be distracted because every mistake against them can be very costly.”
