CAF Official Responds to AFCON 2027 Postponement Reports as Kenya Plans to Submit Pending Ksh3.9 Billion Fee
Even as doubts emerge over whether the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will be held next year, an official from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has seemed to suggest otherwise.
A report from UK publication The Guardian on Wednesday claimed that CAF has resolved to move AFCON 2027 to 2028 and that the decision will be discussed and possibly ratified at its Executive Committee meeting in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on Friday.
The report says there are growing concerns over whether Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania will have the facilities needed ready on time with two new stadiums currently being built in Nairobi and Arusha.
However, CAF Head of TV and Broadcasting Luxolo September has dismissed the report. “You write FICTION,” September wrote on X in response to The Guardian’s report.

Kenya Yet to Pay Hosting Fee
Different reports on Thursday claimed East Africa will still stage the tournament in 2027 with what is still awaited being a hosting fee of $30 billion (Ksh3.9 billion) that is yet to be deposited by Kenya after Uganda and Tanzania finalised their payment.
Kenya is set to pay the pending fee soon, adding an extra layer of commitment from the three East African nations, who are under scrutiny over their capacity and level of preparedness.
Already, CAF officials are in East Africa to inspect key facilities that will be used for the tournament with the tour starting in Tanzania and set to take them to Zanzibar, Kenya and Uganda with the final day being on Tuesday February 17.
While there are some assurances, all eyes will be on the CAF meeting in Dar es Salaam with the outcome of the sitting set to either confirm or clear doubts about AFCON 2027.
