Liverpool boss Arne Slot was left frustrated after his side suffered a dramatic 3-2 Premier League defeat away to Bournemouth, conceding a late winner despite mounting a spirited comeback.

The reigning champions overturned a two-goal deficit to level the game, only to be undone in stoppage time, prompting Slot to point to fatigue and refereeing decisions as key factors in the loss.

Slot points to fatigue and stoppage-time call

Speaking after the match, Slot explained that Liverpool’s packed schedule and limited squad rotation caught up with his players late on.

“For the last five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10 games, we mainly have to play with the same players, the players we have available and then sometimes a few of them could be, in the end of the game, a bit tired,” Slot said. “I think that's what you could see today in the end as well.”

After Bournemouth surged into a 2-0 lead, Liverpool battled back and drew level in the 80th minute through Dominik Szoboszlai. However, Slot was unhappy with the officials after the Cherries scored from a long throw in the 95th minute.

“But in the end there is a long throw in which led to a goal,” he added. “This game should not have had (only) four minutes of extra time. Maybe we could have had them two or three more minutes.”

Iraola hails Bournemouth resilience

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, however, was full of praise for his players after sealing a memorable victory.

“It is a massive win for us because we were in a difficult situation,” Iraola told the BBC. “We are finding ways to get points against difficult opposition.

“I am very proud of the team and what we are doing. We are adapting, and we are getting good points.”

The result deepens Liverpool’s struggles this season, with the champions already having lost seven league games and continuing to fall short of last year’s dominant standards.
