While Pedri’s recent setback has dealt a blow to Hansi Flick’s midfield options, the imminent comeback of the young Spaniard offers a timely piece of good news for the Catalan giants.

A dangerous injury that threatened Gavi’s career

Gavi has been sidelined since August after undergoing surgery for a meniscus tear, an injury that kept him out for five months and raised serious concerns within the club.

According to AS, Barcelona were extremely cautious because the damage involved the meniscus, a vital structure that protects the knee joint from friction.

Any further complications could have required removal of the medial meniscus, a procedure that would have increased the risk of long-term joint problems, including bone spur formation, a scenario that could have threatened his professional career.

Although early surgery might have seen him return in around five weeks, Gavi’s initial reluctance to go under the knife worsened the tear and significantly extended his recovery period.

Barcelona plan careful reintegration

Now, however, Gavi has practically recovered and is entering a crucial phase of his rehabilitation. The current plan is for the academy graduate to return to group training in around ten days, marking a major milestone in his comeback.

Barcelona will take a cautious approach to his reintegration, gradually phasing him back into competitive action after nearly six months without match fitness.

With midfield depth under strain, Gavi’s return is being welcomed as a huge morale boost, and a reminder of how close the club came to losing one of its brightest talents to a potentially career-threatening injury.
