Ivory Coast won the Africa Cup of Nations impressively on home soil, defeating Nigeria 2-1 in the Sunday evening final.

Nigeria took the lead thanks to a header from William Troost-Ekong in the 38th minute.

Franck Kessie leveled the score in the 62nd minute, but Sebastian Haller scored the game-winning goal in the 81st.

Ivory Coast has won the trophy just three times in their history, after winning it in 1992 and 2015. However, it turned out to be the final heartbreak for the three-time winners, Nigeria.

Ivory Coast overcame Senegal, Mali, and Congo in the knockout stages, while Nigeria defeated Cameroon, Angola, and South Africa to secure their spot in the championship.
