In Group A of the AFC Champions League 2023/24, Al Fayha of Saudi Arabia defeated Ahal FC of Turkmenistan 3-1 at the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium on Tuesday.

Both teams needed to win to maintain a slim chance of moving on to the next round of matches.

Nwakaeme smashed his effort against the bar, nearly doubling Al Fayha's lead.

Ahal fought back, and in the 32nd minute, Annayew's foul on Mukhir Al Rashidi gave them a chance to survive.

Al Kassar made the correct judgment and stopped Tagayew's spot kick, but a retake was mandated and Ahal were level.

But in the sixth minute of additional time, Sakala worked his magic for Al Fayha to dramatically regain their lead.

When Sakala supplied a perfectly timed through ball for the overlapping Mandash to score past Ahal goalkeeper Rustem Ahallyyew in the 74th minute, the Central Asian team was further behind.

Al Fayha were able to hold on and seal all three point to progress to the knockout stages.

Nwakaeme featured for 78 minutes before being substituted for compatriot Henry Onyekuru in the 78th minute.

Nwakaeme returns to action when AL Fayha hosts Damac in their next league fixture scheduled for Friday, December 1, 2023.
