Birmingham City head coach Chris Davies has shed light on why Nigerian international defender Bright Osayi-Samuel has found his playing time limited this season.
The 27-year-old defender arrived at St Andrew's last summer on a free transfer from Turkish giants Fenerbahçe, signing a three-year contract.
However, despite his international pedigree, Osayi-Samuel has struggled to cement a regular place in the starting lineup.
Since the beginning of October, the former QPR star has started just one match for the Blues. In total, he has featured for 667 minutes across Birmingham's 17 league games, making only eight starts and completing the full 90 minutes on four occasions.

Birmingham City fans react to Super Eagles star Bright Osayi-Samuel's performance
Birmingham City fans share a unanimous verdict on Super Eagles defender Bright Osayi-Samuel following his standout performance in Championship action.
Davies speaks about Osayi
Osayi-Samuel's struggle for minutes began with a minor injury in early October, which opened the door for others.
Initially, he was competing with former Manchester United defender Ethan Laird for the right-back position.
When Laird subsequently suffered a hamstring injury, Japanese midfielder Tomoki Iwata was deployed as a makeshift full-back and has since excelled in the role.
In an interview with the Birmingham Mail, manager Chris Davies explained the situation, praising Iwata's recent performances.
"Bright has been brought in to be an important player for us. He made a good start, then with injuries he found himself out of the team.
“Tomoki was moved to right-back because both right-backs were injured, and Tomoki has been one of, if not the best, full-back in the league in that time; he’s been exceptional."
"There’s an opportunity for Bright to come in and show what he can do because he’s an international player, he’s played at a really good level, and he’s been working well.
“That’s the nature of being a footballer, you’re not guaranteed to play. You’ve got to really go and make it happen."
Osayi-Samuel was signed to bolster Birmingham's push for promotion. His eight starts have contributed to the team's current standing of 9th in the Championship table.
