Even as a youngster, Cristiano Ronaldo left a huge impression on the ex-Barcelona winger
Former Barcelona and Real Madrid star Luis Figo has opened up about his early impressions of Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portuguese legend admitted he immediately recognised Ronaldo’s extraordinary potential when the forward broke into the national team as a teenager.
Figo gushes over young Ronaldo
Speaking on the Obi One Podcast, Figo recalled Ronaldo’s arrival in Portugal’s senior squad at just 18 years old in 2004.
“You could see that he was an amazing talent… he had technique, he was very fast, he could use both feet, jump… he was amazing at that time,” Figo said.
The former Ballon d’Or winner noted that what impressed him most was Ronaldo’s rapid development and consistency at the highest level.
Figo added that the young winger he admired simply “continued to be” at that elite standard throughout his career.
Figo confesses to admiring Ronaldo
Figo also dismissed any talk of rivalry or jealousy between generations, making it clear that his respect for Ronaldo has never wavered.
“I have the biggest admiration for him because he’s an example,” he explained. “He takes the Portugal name everywhere… the records, the hunger he has to always be better, to win, to be competitive.”
For Figo, Ronaldo’s relentless drive and global achievements have cemented his place among football’s all-time greats and as a proud ambassador for Portugal.
