Former Barcelona and Man City star Yaya Toure has brought a new debate about Barcelona’s 2009 treble-winning team and recent Man City treble-winners.

In 2009 Pep Guardiola’s team won the LaLiga, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League with their famous tiki-taka style.

Guardiola’s team was formidable both in their league and in European tournaments, controlling games with their dominant football.

The four-time African Best Player picked Guardiola’s 2009 Barcelona team ahead of Guardiola’s Man City’s 2023 team and insists that they are superior.

Yaya Toure favours 09 Barcelona Treble team

Yaya Toure has said that Barcelona's 09 treble team will defeat Guardiola’s all-conquering Man City side.

In an interview, Toure said as reported by Daily Mail, “The Barcelona team that had Thierry Henry, Messi, Samuel Eto'o, who were the best in the world. After that, Iniesta and Xavi. Then me and Busquets. That team was so complete.

“It would be tough but that team, with the mix of superstars, so many great players, I think they would win. 100 per cent.

“It was a dream. Even when we were in a training session, it was so intense. The levels we had every day.

“Imagine Iniesta when he was 26, 27. Xavi when he was 28… those players in that period were incredible.”

Toure believed Man City will be great

Toure has said that he believed Manchester City was going to make a great team in the future which is why he joined the club when he left Barcelona.

Speaking to Daily Mail, Toure said, “This is what I predicted. When I made my debut, I said I came to this club because one day this club is going to be great and be on top of United..

“At that moment, it was quite early and people were thinking, 'why is he saying that?' Most of the great players, like Sergio Aguero and David Silva weren't involved yet.

“So seeing Man City do that was incredible, to see them lift this trophy. Soon City will be really well respected in world football.
