Barcelona could be witnessing the birth of another La Masia star with 15-year-old Lamine Yamal set to join the first team

Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez has elected to include 15-year-old La Masia star,  Lamine Yamal, in the first team ahead of the Blaugrana’s clash with Atletico Madrid in LaLiga.

Xavi willing to test youth with LaLiga title all but secured

Xavi had previously been asked if he would be giving some minutes to budding stars from the club’s academy as Barcelona already have a comprehensive lead at the top of the table with a few matches left in the season and he replied in the affirmative.

The Catalans have an 11-point gap over second-place Real Madrid with nine matches left to play and they have already started booking a trophy tour boss for the end of the season.

It appears that Yamal will be among the youngsters getting a chance as the Blaugrana manager fulfils his earlier promise.

Yamal will be part of the squad that takes on Atletico Madrid in Gameweek 30 of LaLiga, and while it is unclear if the youngster will actually get to play, the excitement for another possible star out of La Masia is already palpable among Barcelona fans.

Xavi trusts Yamal ahead of Atletico Madrid clash

Speaking ahead of the Atletico Madrid game, Xavi spoke in glowing terms of the 15-year-old forward, saying he was not afraid to call Yamal up as he had shown incredible potential while playing for the Barcelona youth teams.

Xavi said, “Trust me, Lamine Yamal has really tremendous skills. He can mark an era at this club.

“We are not afraid to call him, as Lamine can help us despite being 15 years old. He has a lot of personality and talent”

Despite being only 15, Yamal has already played for Barcelona’s Juvenil A team and the Spanish U19 team as he is thought to already possess enough quality to play leagues ahead of his age group.

If Yamal gets to play against Atletico Madrid, he will become the youngest-ever player to play for Barcelona in LaLiga, smashing Ansu Fati’s current record of 16 years and 304 days by more than a year.
