FIFA celebrates Finidi George's 54th birthday with his iconic USA '94 dinked goal vs. Greece. Super Eagles legend's strike stuns fans, sparking nostalgia and praise.

The world football governing body, FIFA,  joined Nigerians in celebrating football legend Finidi George’s 54th birthday, highlighting his iconic dinked goal against Greece during Nigeria’s 2-1 victory at the 1994 USA World Cup.

The Nigerian Super Eagles’ official account led the tributes, posting, “Happy birthday to our legend, and former Coach, Finidi George.”

Another celebrated the era, saying, “The speed of Emmanuel Amunike and the finish of Finidi George was what we all enjoyed at USA 94.”

However, some voiced concerns about Nigeria’s prospects for the 2026 World Cup, with one comment stating, “USA 2026 and Nigeria might not qualify.”

Finidi George, a pivotal figure in Nigerian football, continues to inspire awe and pride, as FIFA’s tribute reaffirmed his enduring legacy.

Meanwhile, the former Real Betis star’s hopes of a second domestic title in the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, is looking shaky heading into the final legs.

Finidi and his Rivers United failed to close the gap on leaders Remo Stars following a third successive defeat on the road.

Rivers United went and saw but failed to conquer their hosts, Abia Warriors, who proved just too good and strong for the Nigerian legend and his Pride of Rivers.

The loss left Finidi’s side six points behind in the title race, but with five games to go, there is more to play for and the birthday wishes led by the Super Eagles and FIFA could spur the legendary winger to mount a heroic finish.
