Kenya Police striker Tito Okello has fired a provocative shot at Gor Mahia's Benson Omala in the race for the FKF Premier League Golden Boot.
Kenya Police striker Tito Okello has aimed a subtle dig at Benson Omala amidst a tight race for this season’s FKF Premier League Golden Boot.
Both strikers currently top the goalscoring charts on 15 goals after 30 matches, and as the league comes to a close, it looks like the race will get down to the wire.
Whilst the title is almost all but certain for Omala and K’Ogalo, he risks missing out on the golden boot for the second year in a row, with Okello hot on his tails, while Kariobangi Sharks’ John Mark Makwatta and Tusker’s Erick Kapaito are trailing them, having scored 10 and 11 league goals respectively.
However, Okello might miss the next league game, with head coach Salim Babu choosing to rest him ahead of the FKF Cup semi-final against AFC Leopards after he picked up an injury following a robust challenge by Nairobi City Stars’ Calvin Masawa during their 2-1 win, a game in which he netted a brace.
“I got injured in the last game when we played against City Stars, so I could not make it. I am trying to recover quickly in time to see if I will be back on the pitch as soon as possible,” Okello told KTN News.
Okello has now aimed a dig at Omala, appearing to suggest the Gor Mahia striker was not clinical enough while he was still settling in at Kenya Police after signing in the off season, a club that for much of the first leg, were unstable, having gone through three different coaches.
“In the first leg, I had only scored three goals while he had scored (what felt like) eight goals, and right now, we are tied," Okello said of his form compared to Omala's.

Gor Mahia striker and his Kenya Police counterpart Tito Okello are currently inseparable in the battle to claim the FKF Premier League Golden Boot award.
“If God decides it belongs to you, it belongs to you. I wish him all the best if in deed it belongs to him.”
While Okello is out, he has challenged his competitors to take advantage, or else he will just return to pick up where he left off and run away with the shiny award at the end of the season.
“It will depend on the guys chasing it too. I am out right now. If they do not capitalise on their chances while I am out, they should forget about it.”
Okello believes the enforced lack of gametime as he recovers from his calf injury means he has no pressure to deliver that award.
“He [Omala] is at an advantage and so has to maximise on that because I am out at the moment. I have no pressure.”
