Former Nigeria international Nduka Ugbade has voiced his strong support for Eric Chelle, urging the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to retain the Malian coach.

Ugbade, a former defender for Bnei Yehuda, believes Chelle is laying the groundwork for a new golden era for the Super Eagles.

His team's dynamic, attacking style at the recent AFCON 2025 in Morocco earned acclaim from fans and experts alike.

Although the Super Eagles finished with a bronze medal, they were widely considered the tournament's most exciting team, leading in goals scored and chances created, while also boasting a solid defence.

Ugbade, who previously coached the Golden Eaglets, echoed these sentiments and called for stability within the coaching staff.

"They shouldn’t send the coach (Chelle) away; they should support him," Ugbade told Brila. "All these things follow natural science. If you plant tomatoes today and expect to harvest tomorrow morning, that’s a lie."

He highlighted the visible progress under Chelle, stating, "He took over the job and has been polishing the team. We all can see it.

“In the last three matches, we saw a team that clearly has the potential to be among the best in the world. If we are serious and follow the right process, we will achieve great things. The team is now gelling. Things are beginning to make meaning."

While praising the team's development, Ugbade noted there is still room for improvement, particularly in defence.

"What remains is to improve certain areas, especially defensively. The defence used to be very tight, but now teams can play through it and score. These are things that can be fixed with time and proper planning."

Chelle's success has reportedly drawn interest from Tunisia, Angola, and Gabon. However, both the National Sports Commission and the NFF have indicated they are working to extend his contract.
