Simon Msuva continued his impressive form in the qualifiers, scoring his third goal in the last four games for Tanzania and his 19th overall.

Tanzania claimed a crucial 1-0 victory over Niger, significantly enhancing their chances of qualifying for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Simon Msuva emerged as the hero for the Taifa Stars, scoring the lone goal in the 69th minute after a well-executed pass from Mrisho Ngasa.

With this win, Tanzania now sits comfortably in second place in Group F with seven points, three ahead of Uganda who play Algeria later on, setting the stage for an intense battle for qualification.

With one game remaining, the Taifa Stars have positioned themselves well, eagerly awaiting the outcome of Uganda's clash against group leaders Algeria on Sunday.

Tanzania is hoping for a slip-up from Uganda in order to maintain their second-place position, paving the way for a thrilling final round of qualifiers in September.

This victory against Niger offered Tanzania an opportunity to rectify their mistakes from their previous home match against Uganda, where they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat.

Despite not securing a home win since 2022, the Taifa Stars seized the chance to solidify their second-place standing, although their wastefulness prevented them from winning by a bigger margin.

Tanzania entered the game with the knowledge that they had not scored a goal at home in the qualifiers.

However, they drew inspiration from Niger's struggles, as the visitors had not won an AFCON qualifying match since 2020 and had failed to keep a clean sheet in a competitive game since 2021.

Simon Msuva continued his impressive form in the qualifiers, scoring his third goal in the last four games for Tanzania and his 19th overall.

Tanzania is determined to return to the prestigious tournament, having missed out on the 2021 edition.

Their aspirations are now within reach as they set their sights on the upcoming competition, which will take place in the Ivory Coast next year.
