‘Biggest club in Asia!’ — Super Eagles icon Ighalo welcomes Agba Baller Oshoala to Al Hilal

Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala has been unveiled at Al Hilal, with Super Eagles icon Odion Ighalo welcoming her and describing the Saudi giants as the biggest club in Asia.

Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala has been officially unveiled as a player for Saudi Arabian giants Al Hilal, receiving a warm welcome from Super Eagles legend Odion Ighalo, who described the club as the "biggest club in Asia."

Oshoala’s surprise transfer from NWSL side Bay FC to the Saudi Pro League’s Al Hilal was finalised recently, with the Nigerian forward signing a two-year contract. 

Her move has generated excitement among fans and fellow players alike as both clubs took to social media to confirm the transfer of the six-time African champion to the Saudi Pro League giants.

Ighalo reacts

Following the transfer, former Manchester United forward, Ighalo, who starred for the Blue Waves for two seasons, scoring 43 goals in 50 appearances, joined Nigerians to celebrate the Super Falcons legend.

Ighalo, the top scorer at AFCON 2019, took to social media to celebrate his compatriot’s new chapter. 

In a video posted on Instagram from Oshoala addressing Al Hilal supporters, Ighalo enthusiastically welcomed Oshoala, commenting, “Yalla star girl, the biggest club in Asia.”

This endorsement from Ighalo shows the significance of Oshoala’s arrival at Al Hilal, highlighting the growing stature of the Saudi club in the Asian football scene and the increasing prominence of African stars in the region. 

Asisat Oshoala’s move marks a new era for women’s football in Saudi Arabia, with the club aiming to boost its profile by bringing in top talent from around the world.

With the transfer now completed, Oshoala becomes the latest Nigerian in Saudi Arabia, joining Super Eagles icons William Troost-Ekong, Ighalo, and her Super Falcons teammates, Ashleigh Plumptre and Francisca Ordega.
