Kimpembe suffered a damaged Achilles tendon and will be out for the rest of season

PSG have announced that defender Presnel Kimpembe will be out injured for the rest of the season after he was taken off injured in their 3-0 victory over Marseille in Ligue 1.

The defender had to be taken off after only 16 minutes of the encounter and was replaced by Danilo.

Galtier conforms Kimpembe injury

PSG coach Christophe Galtier first confirmed to AmazonPrime TV that Kimpembe’s injury was very bad and that it would take quite a while to recover from.

Speaking after PSg’s win over Marseille, he said, “Unfortunately, he’s seriously injured and he’ll be out for the remainder of the season. He has excruciating pain to his Achilles tendon. We believe it’s serious.”

The club also issued an update on his injury via Twitter, reiterating that Kimpembe had ruptured his Achilles tendon and would require surgery to repair it in the next few days.

Kimpembe’s injury hell

Kimpembe has had a torrid season injury-wise and has played less than 1,000 minutes of football in all competitions for PSG, after previously struggling with hamstring issues and a previous Achilles tendon injury.

He was also forced to miss the 2022 World Cup after his hamstring injury and had to watch from home as France reached the final.

He has only played 11 matches in the league this season, with two of them coming from the bench, yet the blow will still be heavy for PSG who have moved to a back-three system and now have only two fit centre-backs and will now be forced to play midfielder Danilo in defence.
