PSG eye Barcelona star Fermin Lopez in €80m summer swoop

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has turned his attention to Barcelona’s Fermin Lopez as a key target in his summer recruitment drive, according to reports from Spain.

The 22-year-old midfielder has emerged as a major prospect in European football following a breakout campaign with the Catalan giants. Fermin registered eight goals and ten assists in 46 appearances last season, quickly cementing his place as one of La Liga’s most exciting young midfielders.

Despite Barcelona’s already crowded midfield under new manager Hansi Flick, Fermin’s versatility, creativity, and attacking output have made him an indispensable option.

However, PSG are believed to be preparing a big-money bid to lure the Spanish international to the French capital.

Sources close to the French club say Enrique is eager to inject more dynamism into his midfield. While the current trio of Warren Zaïre-Emery, Vitinha, and Manuel Ugarte has delivered consistency and control, Enrique reportedly wants a player who offers a direct goal threat and extra flair in the final third, qualities that Fermin possesses in abundance.

Barcelona, for their part, are believed to have slapped a hefty €80 million price tag on the midfielder. Fermin’s contract runs until 2029, and while Hansi Flick is said to be reluctant to lose the player, the club’s ongoing financial challenges may force them to consider a lucrative sale.

The Catalans have been exploring ways to balance their books this summer, and a high-profile exit such as Fermin’s could ease the pressure. Although Flick is keen to build his squad around young talents like the Seville-born star, the right offer may test the resolve of the Barcelona board.

For PSG, Fermin is seen as more than a long-term investment. Luis Enrique reportedly believes the youngster could step into a starting role immediately, especially as the Parisians aim to build a side capable of finally conquering Europe.

His understanding of Enrique’s tactical style, stemming from their shared Spanish football roots, would also make the transition smoother.

Should the French champions meet Barcelona’s valuation, Fermin could join a growing list of La Liga stars who have taken their talents to Ligue 1. With the player’s stock rising and interest from other top clubs not ruled out, PSG may have to act swiftly to secure his signature.

This potential move could become one of the standout transfers of the 2025 summer window, especially with both clubs looking to reshape their midfield identities.
