FOOTBALL One win in six matches against Kakamega Homeboyz, do AFC Leopards stand any chance?

AFC Leopards face one of their bogey teams in Kakamega Homeboyz and after managing just one victory over Abana Abeingo in six attempts, they head into the clash as underdogs

Kakamega Homeboyz coach Patrick Odhiambo remains cautious despite the fact that his team are the hot favourites to beat AFC Leopards in their FKF Premier League clash on Sunday.

Homeboyz head into the encounter at Nyayo Stadium as the form team of the division having won five straight matches that leave them second on the table with 27 points, just one behind leaders Gor Mahia.

By contrast, Leopards are in the relegation zone and are the only team not to win at least two matches this season, sitting in a precarious 16th position with 11 points and could find themselves at the bottom by the end of the week if basement side Muhoroni Youth win on Sunday.

To make matters worse, Leopards have only beaten Homeboyz once in their last six meetings, three ending in Abana Abeingo’s favour, including both matches last season, while two were draws.

Odhiambo, however, remains wary of an upset from wounded Leopards and has urged his players not to put Ingwe’s poor form into consideration.

“Our preparations have been good. We will be missing three players in Kevin Amwayi, Hillary Otieno and Ambrose Sifuna through injury but we have depth in the squad so we will not worry much,” said Odhiambo.

“We take it as a normal match. Sometimes form has a bearing but it does not always tell the whole story. We must be careful because they can decide to wake up against us.”

There has been a simmering rivalry between Homeboyz and Leopards owing to the fact that the two enjoy support from Western Kenya.

This was on show in their last meeting in May when the match was abandoned due to an incident of hooliganism with Homeboyz later awarded the win while Leopards were heavily sanctioned by the Football Kenya Federation.

Even with their low confidence, Leopards can ill afford to lose the match as it will add onto their relegation fears even this early in the season.

Homeboyz will, however, be salivating at the prospect of adding three more points on the board to keep pace with the title challengers.
