Okumu had a solid game but he could not help Reims avoid defeat to Toulouse despite dominating the Ligue 1 encounter on Sunday evening.

Harambee Stars defender Joseph Okumu could not help Reims turn around a poor first half as they lost 3-2 to visiting Toulouse in a Ligue 1 encounter that took place on Sunday evening.

Okumu himself actually did have a reasonably good game. He made two clearances and four tackles. He was commanding as he won both his attempted areal duels, and won eight of his 12 ground duels.

His passing was as usual, top notch as he had an 83 percent success rate, while he was also unlucky not to get an assist from a good cross he gave down the right flank and a goal from a header.

The away side took the lead in the 12th minute through Mawissa Elebi’s header from close range after Reims’ goalkeeper Diouf failed to clear from within the six-yard box .

Toulouse would double their lead in emphatic fashion in the 31st minute, as Shavy Babicka netted his first goal in Ligue 1 UberEats with a lovely curled strike past Diouf.

It was blow for Reims, coming just as the home side were starting to find their rhythm. Toulouse would get a third goal just before half time, this time from the penalty spot through Thijs Dallinga after Diouf made a foul on Agbadou in the box just before half time.

A better second half would come for Okumu and his teammates, as Teddy Teuma grabbed a goal back right after the resumption of play in the 48th minute.

Despite a dominant display, the home side wouldn’t get another goal back until injury time through Sergio Akieme to set up a pulsating finish at the Stade Auguste Delaune in the 90th minute.

Reims continued to pile the pressure on Toulouse and even had another attempt cleared off the line by Guilluame Restes and in the end, it was Les Violets who took all the three points.

The result now means that Reims remain seventh on 30 points, five behind fourth placed Lille.
