The Golden Eaglets go into the competition as two-time champions and will hope to make it three, when the competition starts on, April 29, 2023.

Nigeria's U-17 national team side - the Golden Eaglets, have been drawn into Group B of the 2023 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.

The competition scheduled to take place from April 29 to May 19, 2023, will see 12 nations vie to be crowned as the continent's new U-17 champions in Algeria.

The Golden Eaglets go into the competition as two-time champions and will hope to make it three, having won the competition in 2001 and 2007, finished second in 1995 and 2013, and finished in third place in 2003.

Complete Groups for 2023 U-17 AFCON

Group A: Algeria, Senegal, Congo, Somalia

Group B: Nigeria, Morocco, South Africa, Zambia

Group C: Cameroon, Mali, Burkina Faso, South Sudan

Nigeria's Group B opponents Morocco, finished fourth at the 2013 tournament while South Africa finished as runners-up in 2015.

Zambia, the weakest side in Group B, have never gone past the first round.

U-17 AFCON makes return after COVID break

The competition returns for the first time since the Tanzania-hosted event in 2019 after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the 2021 event to be cancelled on 24 December 2020.

Cameroon are the defending champions of the U-17 AFCON, having won the 2019 edition.

Should the Golden Eaglets finish as one of the top four teams in Algeria, they will get the chance to fly Nigeria's flag in Peru.
