Nigerian blasts NFF and NSC for ‘Premature Party’ in Morocco amid World Cup heartbreak

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will not be at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In the wake of Nigeria's agonising exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup race, a social media user has unleashed a scathing critique of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the National Sports Commission (NSC), accusing them of celebrating a qualification that never materialised.

The user posted after DR Congo's penalty shootout victory over the Eagles in Rabat on Sunday, didn't mince words.

"We never confirm qualifications, but Azman has been don dey already dey party for Morocco," he said referencing the NFF's optimistic pre-match rhetoric and the presence of high-level officials in the North African kingdom.

The term "Azman" appears to be a pointed jab at NFF president Ibrahim Musa Gusau and his inner circle.

Nigeria's World Cup dreams crumbled dramatically on Sunday, when the Super Eagles fell 4-3 on penalties to DR Congo in the final African playoff.

Earlier, the Super Eagles had thrashed Gabon 4-1 in the semi-final.

That win over Gabon, however, was nearly derailed by internal strife. Just 48 hours before kickoff the entire squad, including players, coaching staff, and officials, boycotted training in protest over unpaid bonuses and allowances stretching back years.

The boycott was resolved only after frantic interventions from NSC executives and partial fund releases, allowing the Eagles to take the field against Gabon.
