Championship club Leicester City have provided an update on Nigeria Super Eagles star Wilfred Ndidi's injury situation.

English Championship side Leicester City have confirmed that Nigeria international Wilfred Ndidi is set for an extended time on the sidelines due to an injury.

Super Eagles will be without the in-form central midfielder, who is expected to be out for weeks, at the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.

According to a statement from the club manager, Enzo Maresca, the 27-year-old defensive midfielder will be on the sidelines due to a muscular problem.

Maresca mentioned this during his pre-match press conference ahead of their match against Millwall in the Emirates FA Cup.

"Probably for Wilf, it will be a long time," Maresca said per Leicester City website. "It could be three months. It looks like a muscular problem, but an important one.”

“So we will see in the next hours but the situation for Wilf is probably the clearest one."

Ndidi has rediscovered himself this season under the guidance of Maresca, who is looking to fire the Foxes back to the Premier League following their relegation last season.

The Nigerian international has shone in a new attacking role under his new manager, playing a key role in Leicester’s rise to the top of the Championship.

In his 21 matches for the Foxes, Ndidi has scored two goals and assisted five more before his latest setback which has now ruled him out of Nigeria’s quest for a fourth AFCON title in Cote d’Ivoire.
