NFF reacts to Turkey earthquake, give situation report on Nigerian players

More than 3,400 people have been killed and thousands more injured after a powerful magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Turkey and Syria early on Monday.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that no Nigerian players are trapped in the earthquake that rocked Turkey early Monday morning.

A 7.8 magnitude earthquake rocked areas of Turkey and Syria on Monday, causing devastation across the countries with rising casualties.

A second earthquake, with its epicentre near the city of Kahramanmaras, hit several hours after the first, with the rising death shooting past 3000 people.

NFF confirm Nigerian players are safe

Reacting to the effects of the natural disaster on Monday, NFF, Nigeria's football governing body said doused the fears among Nigerians, adding that players plying their trade in Turkey are not among those trapped under rubbles of the earthquake.

"The Nigeria Football Federation is sad about the unfortunate earthquake in Kahramanmaras city of Turkey," the body said on Twitter.

"NFF President, Alh. Ibrahim Gusau has reached out to Nigerian players based in Turkey and they have all confirmed that they are fine.

"We pray the souls of the departed rest in peace even as we commiserate with the people of Turkey at this time."
