Victor Osimhen's Argentine teammate Mauro Icardi has broken an all time Galatasaray record

Mauro Icardi has written his name deeper into Galatasaray folklore after becoming the club’s all-time leading foreign goalscorer.

The Argentine’s latest milestone also sets a clear target for Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, who continues to close in on the record.

Icardi surpasses Hagi and cements Galatasaray legacy

Icardi overtook club legend Gheorghe Hagi after scoring his 73rd goal for Galatasaray, opening the scoring in a 3–1 Turkish Super Cup victory over Istanbulspor.

The strike moved him clear of Hagi’s long-standing record and further underlined the impact he has made since arriving in Turkey. Signed initially on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in September 2022, Icardi quickly became a fan favourite through decisive goals and big-game performances.

He finished the 2022/23 Süper Lig season with 22 goals and seven assists, playing a key role in Galatasaray’s title win, before completing a permanent €10 million move the following summer. His influence only grew, as he went on to score crucial goals in domestic derbies and European competitions, including a memorable Champions League winner against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Even an ACL injury in late 2024 failed to dull his legacy, with the striker returning in 2025 to score again and equal, then surpass, several club records.

Osimhen closing in as new benchmark emerges

While Icardi currently leads the way, Victor Osimhen has emerged as a serious contender to challenge the record in the coming seasons.

The Nigerian striker has already scored 51 goals in just 61 appearances for Galatasaray across all competitions, putting him well within reach of Icardi’s tally if his current trajectory continues.

Osimhen’s explosive pace, physicality, and ruthless finishing have made him one of the most feared forwards in Turkey, and his numbers suggest the record is no longer untouchable.

With Icardi’s future influenced by age and injury history, the benchmark of 73 goals now stands as a clear target for the Super Eagles star to aim for.As Galatasaray continue to compete domestically and in Europe, the club could soon witness a changing of the guard. For now, Icardi stands alone at the top, but Osimhen’s rapid rise means the race for Galatasaray’s most prolific foreign goalscorer is far from over.
