GRAMMY Award-Winning and Oscar-nominated Tems is the latest Nigerian to join football management after her partnership with MLS side San Diego.

Temilade Openiyi, the Nigerian singer known professionally as Tems, has become a Club Partner and joined the ownership group of San Diego FC (SDFC) of Major League Soccer (MLS) through her company, The Leading Vibe.

This shocking move makes her the first African woman to join the ownership group of the club and Major League Soccer, MLS.

Tems joins a group of Club Partners that includes actress Issa Rae, World Cup winner Juan Mata, retired U.S. Navy SEAL Jocko Willink, and baseball star Manny Machado.

She is also partnering with Pave Investments, an African private investment firm. Tunde Folawiyo, Chairman of Pave Investments, and Kwamena Afful, Founding Director of Pave Investments, will also be joining the SDFC ownership group.

Tems, a two-time Grammy Award winner and Oscar nominee, explained her move into football ownership on her social media account, stating,

“I’m so stoked to announce that I have officially joined @sandiegofc ownership group as a Club Partner!”

San Diego FC Chairman Sir Mohamed Mansour is excited about the partnership as it would help them reach more audiences.

Tems, who was born in Lagos, Nigeria, also stated further on the club’s website,
