After just four months on the job, Regragui could be headed for one of the biggest awards in world football

Morocco’s coach during their incredible run to the World Cup semifinals, Walid Regragui, has been nominated for the coach of the year category in the 2022 FIFA The Best awards.

Regragui had a great year with the Atlas Lions, becoming the first African coach to manage a team in the World Cup quarterfinals and the first coach to reach the semifinals of the World Cup with an African side.

Regragui led Morocco to their highest finish in World Cup history

Regragui only started as head coach of Morocco in September of 2022, but his incredible achievements in the short period between then and now were enough for him to make the prestigious list of coaches.

The tactician quickly turned around the fortunes of a national team on the brink of chaos and was responsible for restoring faith in the Atlas Lions by bridging its best talents back into the fold.

The results of Regragui’s genius helped Morocco make history, and it has set him up with a chance for personal glory.

Regragui is up against some of the biggest names in football including 2022 UEFA Champions League winner Carlo Ancelotti, and FIFA World Cup winner Lionel Scaloni.

Also in the category are Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola and France’s Didier Deschamps, whose run to the final of the World Cup earned him a new contract until 2026.

It’s clearly a tough ask for Regragui to clinch the award, but he is no stranger to tough asks and would be a worthy winner of the award should he get it.
