Harambee Stars defender Daniel Anyembe was deployed at centre-back as his side recorded a stalemate in the Danish top division

Harambee Stars right-back Daniel Anyembe had a mixed performance at centre-back during FF Viborg’s draw with Midtjylland on Friday evening.

Anyembe, who has featured for Viborg mostly as a right-back but can play anywhere across the backline, was given the nod to start in central defence, and although he impressed for parts of the game, he also underwhelmed in others.

He made five clearances, three tackles and interceptions and one blocked shot. He also won six of his seven attempted ground duels. However, he also made an error that directly led to a goal and was dribbled past once and lost the single aerial duel he attempted.

The former Denmark U21 international made 11 attempts at passing the ball long, seven of which were successful, and made 56 out of 65 attempted passes in general.

He also carried the ball out from the back and made three successful take ons in the process, underpinning his composure and competence at playing the ball out from the back.

After an evenly contested first half, Midtjyland took the lead six minutes into the second half when a cross was sent towards the back post before South Korean Cho appeared and headed it home to make it 1-0.

Their lead would be short-lived though, as Viborg’s Serginho took matters into his own hands in the best possible way.

The Portuguese successfully took on and got past both Midtjylland centre-backs before poking the ball into the net to make it 1-1.

The green-blues continued to put pressure on the visitors who at times had difficulty getting out of their own half.

However, Anyembe did not get enough power on his attempted headed pass backwards towards goalkeeper Lucas Lund with a quarter of an hour left to play, before Franculino intercepted the ball and with a chip to make it 2-1.

Coach Friis' troops did not let themselves be cowed, and equaliaed two minutes later. A precise ball was sawed in from a corner before Zan Zaletel made a towering header into the back of the net.

The result means Viborg remain seventh in the Danish Superliga on nine points after eight matches.
