Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag believes his side could have beaten Manchester City but for two soft goals

Manchester United head coach Erik Ten Hag has bemoaned his side’s loss against Manchester City in the FA Cup final, blaming the loss on the team conceding two “soft” goals.

Manchester City beat Red Devils after Gundogan brace

The Red Devils fought back after conceding an early goal against Manchester City, with Bruno Fernandes scoring a penalty to draw them level, but they eventually lost after Gundogan scored again to give the Cityzens the second trophy of a possible treble.

Speaking after the game, Ten Hag praised his team’s resilience, but also noted that they had the game in their hands and did not deserve to lose the game.

He said, “They were tough goals, they were so soft and avoidable. When you play against City and you don't concede almost nothing from open play it is a big credit for the team but if you concede goals like this it is disappointing.”

Ten Hag sees positives in loss

Despite the goals conceded and the loss, Ten Hag was happy with the team’s overall performance, and noted that there were positives despite the loss.

Speaking after the game, he said, "This team showed resilience, character and personality. We know we have a way to go but this will make us better. It was a test for us, we didn't succeed but we can take a lot of positives into next season."

Manchester City could equal Manchester United’s 1999 treble with a victory in the UEFA Champions League final against Inter after already winning the Premier League and FA Cup.
