FAM readies Lilongwe for thrilling Four Nations Tourney; nations unite in football spirit ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Football fever is set to grip Malawi as the nation braces itself to host the highly anticipated Four Nations Tourney, slated to commence on Wednesday, March 20th, in Lilongwe.

Organized by the Football Association of Malawi (FAM), the tournament will witness the Flames alongside Kenya’s Harambee Stars, Zimbabwe Warriors, and Zambia’s Chipolopolo, battling it out at the renowned Bingu National Stadium.

In a recent media briefing, Madalitso Kuyera, FAM's first vice-president and chairperson of the local Organising Committee (LOC) assured that everything is set for the tournament's smooth execution.

“As a country, we are ready to host the two tournaments with the Under-20 starting tomorrow at Silver Stadium and Seniors at the Bingu National Stadium from Saturday.

“This is a great opportunity for Malawi to showcase our expertise in match organization, rich culture, tourism, and history to the world.

"FAM has been hosting a lot of national and international games which have been successful and it is not going to be any different this time as we all look ahead to a successful tournament this time again," he said.

With meticulous planning underway behind the scenes, Kuyera assured Malawians of a world-class tournament experience.

The tournament will feature an Under-20 parallel event involving Malawi, Zimbabwe, and Kenya, adding an extra layer of excitement to the football fiesta.

The action-packed schedule kicks off tomorrow with the Malawi Under-20 national football team facing off against Zimbabwe at Silver Stadium.

Subsequent matches will see Kenya taking on Zimbabwe on Friday, before clashing with Malawi on Sunday.

The senior tournament will commence on Saturday, with Malawi locking horns with Kenya in the first semi-final, followed by Zambia squaring off against Zimbabwe later in the evening at Bingu National Stadium.

The tournament's climax will witness the finalists battling for glory, while the third-place playoff is scheduled for March 26.

Ensuring the safety and security of spectators, particularly for evening matches, remains a top priority for the local organizing committee.

“You will note that some of the matches will be played in the evening as such we have tightened security to ensure that people’s lives and property are secured," he noted.

Teams have already begun arriving for the tournament, with Zimbabwe under-20 and the first group of Zimbabwe seniors having touched down. Zambia is expected to arrive today, while both Kenyan teams are set to land on Thursday.

Tickets for the senior matches are already available with sales for the Under-20 matches set to begin on match days.
