Lyon has officially announced its intention to appeal the National Directorate of Control and Management (DNCG)'s decision to relegate the club from Ligue 1 to Ligue 2 due to financial irregularities.
The news of Lyon's relegation broke on social media after the ruling came from France's football financial watchdog, the DNCG.
The decision to implement these drastic measures comes despite the club's desperate and concerted efforts to stabilise their financial situation.

Lyon to appeal decision
In a statement on their official website, via Sportal, "Les Gones" confirmed they are aware of the decision and will file an immediate appeal.
"In recent months, we have worked closely with the DNCG, meeting all their requirements, including equity investments exceeding the requested amounts.
Thanks to capital injections from our shareholders and the sale of our shares in Crystal Palace, our financial situation has significantly improved, and we have sufficient resources to participate in the 2025/26 season," the statement read.
The club expressed its bewilderment at the decision, given its financial stability and sporting achievements, which have led to participation in European club competitions for two consecutive years.
"We do not understand how an administrative decision can prevent such a major French club from participating in the top division.
"We will appeal to demonstrate our ability to secure the necessary financial resources for Lyon's participation in Ligue 1," the club management insisted.
