Onyego marshaled the defence as Bristol City dominated Backburn, beating them 5-0 on Wednesday night.

Harambee Stars prospect Zak Vyner Onyego was solid as a rock as Bristol City increased Blackburn's relegation fears with a thumping 5-0 Championship win at Ashton Gate.

Onyego played in the middle of a back three and commanded the area throughout the match. He made three clearances and one interception, won his duels effectively and was generally comfortable as Blackburn posed little to no threat.

The tone for Bristol City's victory was set early on, with striker Tommy Conway netting a first-half brace. Conway capitalized on defensive errors, exploiting a mistake by Dominic Hyam to open the scoring in the 24th minute.

He swiftly doubled his tally from the penalty spot, punishing another defensive lapse by Blackburn after Callum Brittain's error led to Hyam's foul inside the box.

The onslaught continued in the second half, with substitutes Anis Mehmeti and Nahki Wells adding to Blackburn's misery.

Mehmeti capitalized on defensive frailties to fire in Bristol City's third goal in the 73rd minute, before Wells converted a penalty in the 78th minute following a handball by Blackburn's Kyle McFadzean.

Wells sealed the emphatic victory with a stoppage-time tap-in from Harry Cornick's cross, leaving Blackburn reeling and just three points above the relegation zone with four games remaining.

Bristol City's dominance was evident from the outset, with Scott Twine's early chances signaling their intent.

Despite fleeting moments of threat from Blackburn, particularly through Dilan Markanday and Joe Rankin-Costello, Bristol City remained in control, capitalizing on defensive lapses to assert their superiority.

Conway, in particular, could have further extended Bristol City's lead, but was denied a hat-trick by a sprawling save from Blackburn's Aynsley Pears. Mark Sykes also squandered a clear opportunity as Bristol City continued to exploit Blackburn's defensive vulnerabilities.

The victory leaves mid-table Bristol City looking forward to next season.

For Blackburn, comes a tricky run of four fixtures - starting with Saturday's trip across the Pennines to face promotion-chasing Leeds United.
