The 20-year-old joins Leganes’ subsidiary team after a successful stint with Real Monarchs II in the USA where he spent the previous season.

Spanish Football Club Leganes CD has completed the signing of Uganda Cranes left-back Aziz Kayondo.

The 20-year-old joins Leganes’ subsidiary team after a successful stint with Real Monarchs II in the USA where he spent the previous season.

Kayondo joins for an undisclosed fee from Czech Republic side MFK Vyškov, which he joined in 2022.

CD Leganés B competes in Group V of the Segunda Federación, which is the fourth tier of the Spanish football hierarchy.

He began his career with Vipers FC in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League before moving to MFK Vyskov and was then loaned out to Real Monarchs in the MLS Next professional league.

The Ugandan defender's performances at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations caught the attention of many scouts and football enthusiasts, as he was named the best left-back in the tournament.

His impressive displays made him one of the most sought-after young defenders in East Africa.

The club said it is delighted to welcome Kayondo to its squad and wishes him success in his new adventure.

Kayondo's arrival at Leganés’ is expected to provide a boost to the team's defence, with the Ugandan possessing an impressive work rate, technical ability, and athleticism on the pitch.

He becomes the third Ugandan player on the Pepinero’s roster, joining compatriots Ibrahim Saddam Juma who is already at the club and Allan Enyou who is understood to be joining the club soon.

The move to Spain should be a step in the right direction for Kayondo who is eager to continue his football development in Spain and hopes to make a positive impact at CD Leganés.

The 20-year-old left-back has already shown great promise in his young career, and his talent and potential have earned him recognition both in Uganda and on the international stage.
