Jurgen Klopp reveals why he turned down become Germany head coach

Jurgen Klopp revealed he could have become the German national team coach before Euro 2024 but chose to remain at Liverpool.

In January 2024, Klopp announced he would leave the club at the end of that season, in which Liverpool finished third.

Following his departure, the Reds signed Arne Slot and won the Premier League title in his first season.

What Klopp said

"The season before (2022-23) didn't go so well for Liverpool, and in the summer after that campaign, Germany was looking for a new coach.

"I could have said 'yes' because maybe it would have been better to do something different," Klopp told the weekly newspaper "Welt am Sonntag".

"I didn't want it. And the decision wasn't related to the job of national team coach. I couldn't just leave Liverpool. There was a team, there were people I had a strong connection with," he explained.

"That was important to me. We managed to do it. However, the decision to leave Liverpool was made," the specialist commented.

"My intuition tells me: No. I loved my job, but I don't miss it," he concluded, as reported by Sportal.

Since January 2025, he has held the position of Global Head of Football at Red Bull and is not currently considering taking another coaching job in the future.
