Premier League Player of the Year is dreading the prospect of losing manager Pep Guardiola

Manchester City star Phil Foden has expressed his sadness at the prospect of manager Pep Guardiola leaving the club next year.

Guardiola, who has been instrumental in Manchester City’s dominance in recent years, hinted that he might depart when his contract expires at the end of the next season, saying, "The reality is I am closer to leaving than staying," raising concerns among fans and players alike.

Foden worried about Guardiola departure

Foden, recently named Premier League Player of the Year, shared his thoughts on Guardiola’s possible departure with BBC Sport, saying, "I’ve not known any other thing apart from him, so it’ll be strange when he does go. I don't want to think too much about it. I want to enjoy the things we're doing now with him."

Phil Foden credits much of his development and success to Guardiola's guidance and coaching philosophy. The 23-year-old has had his best season yet, scoring 19 Premier League goals and providing eight assists, contributing significantly to Manchester City's sixth title in seven seasons and he noted that all that has been possible thanks to Guardiola for simplifying football and making the game easier to understand and execute.

"I feel like there's other managers out there who complicate it a little bit," Foden noted.

Foden happy to be key to Manchester City’s success

Under Guardiola's tutelage, Foden has evolved from a promising talent to a key player for Manchester City, and he acknowledged the importance of stepping up and becoming a consistent goal scorer for the team, saying, "I've been here for a long time now working with the manager. And I think now is the time for me to step up and try and be the man who’s going to score the goals.”

Since joining City in 2016, Guardiola has secured 17 trophies, establishing the club as a dominant force in English and European football and Foden has played a part in many of them, most especially the recent Premier League triumph.
