Former Super Eagles and Everton striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni has voiced his strong approval of Ademola Lookman's recent transfer from Atalanta to La Liga giants Atlético Madrid.

The Nigerian international ended his long-term transfer saga after being linked with moves to several clubs in Europe.

Lookman secured a high-profile move to the Spanish capital in a deal reportedly worth €40 million, comprising a €35 million initial fee plus €5 million in potential add-ons.

The Nigerian international finalised the switch after successfully passing his medical, concluding a highly successful period in Italy with Atalanta.

Reacting to the news, Yakubu expressed his pride and stated that the move was a fitting step for a player of Lookman's calibre.

"I was convinced he was going to leave Atalanta this winter. Seeing him sign for a big club like Atlético Madrid is a great source of pride," Yakubu told Africa Foot

"Ademola deserves to wear the colours of a top club like Atlético Madrid. He will bring many positive things to them."

Yakubu believes Lookman's qualities will be a significant asset to Diego Simeone's squad as they compete for honours both domestically and in Europe. He emphasised that the transfer is a win-win for both the player and the club.

"I believe this transfer will be beneficial for both parties. Ademola will revive his career with Atlético Madrid," he explained.

"The Spanish club, for its part, has added a talented player to its squad who will bring something different to their attacking play."

"He will succeed in Atlético Madrid colours because he knows expectations are high. And he’s a player who reaches his full potential when he has the confidence of his coach."

Lookman becomes only the second Nigerian player to represent the club's men's team, following in the footsteps of Abass Lawal.
