Senegalese legend Sadio Mane has revealed his favourite former Liverpool teammate and it is not Mohamed Salah or Roberto Firmino
Sadio Mane has lifted the lid on his Liverpool years in a rare, honest chat, revealing the teammate he connected with most on and off the pitch.
In a discussion on former Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand’s podcast, the Senegalese forward made it clear that while he respected everyone, one partnership stood above the rest.
Mane revisits Salah fallout
Mane openly addressed the famous tension between himself and Mohamed Salah, confirming that their viral Burnley incident was real and emotional.
“I was really, really angry because he didn’t pass to me when he should have,” Mane recalled. He went on to describe how Salah approached him the next day, unsure of how to apologise. “Can we talk?” Salah asked nervously, before explaining, “I wasn’t thinking or see you to pass… I just wanted to shoot.”
Mane revealed that he responded calmly, telling him, “I was angry because I think you can pass to me more with your quality.”
Surprisingly, the confrontation actually brought them closer. “Since that day we became even closer… it wasn’t personal. He just wants to score, score, score,” Mane said, adding that he even promised Salah, “I can help you because I know you want to be a top scorer.”
Mane names the teammate he shared his best-ever partnership with
Despite worldwide assumptions that his strongest chemistry was with Salah or Roberto Firmino, Mane revealed a different truth: Andy Robertson was his favourite football partner.
“People talk about the front three… but if you see Robertson, you see the overlapping and desire to win every single ball. It’s just amazing,” he said.
Mane explained that their bond was unique and instinctive. “I think it was my best partnership in all my career because we knew each other. It was just natural. I helped him, he helped me,” he added.
Mane also shared how they constantly reassured each other before tough matchups with opposing wingers. Robertson would say, “Help me, I help you,” and Mane always replied, “Don’t worry, I will be here for you… we’ll catch him, we’ll put him in the pocket.”
For Mane, that connection summed up pure teamwork, and his favourite partnership ever in Liverpool red.
