‘I don’t agree with that at all’ - Ex-Rangers star tell Clement to fight for Dessers

Former Rangers star Kris Boyd has cautioned Philippe Clement against selling Super Eagles forward Cyriel Dessers.

This season, Dessers has struggled to get into the Rangers' starting eleven, with Hamza Igamane now benching him.

However, in recent weeks, the Super Eagles attacker has been brought in as a substitute and scored important goals for his club, with the latest coming against Manchester United in the Europa League.

Despite his performance, he has been linked with a move away from the club ever since the January transfer window opened

Boyd wants Dessers stay

Kris Boyd thinks Dessers' departure will ultimately cost Philippe Clement, who has scored four goals in two games in the last week.

According to the Scottish Sun, he said, “I don’t agree with that at all. If Philippe Clement wants success between now and the end of May, he should fight to keep him.

“The Nigerian international turns up for his work every single day, he’s always available and he scores goals — 17 of them so far this season. Do not underestimate how important that is for this squad.

“Rangers need to be careful, though. With Danilo injured again, Clement only has Hamza Igamane and Dessers as first-team strikers.

“The Moroccan has massive potential and has emerged as an important player for Clement in recent months.”

Boyd gave Igamane a lot of credit, but he also pointed out that if Rangers let Dessers go, the Moroccan's inexperience could cost them.

He continued, “Igamane has a lovely touch, he links the play and he uses the ball well, but he is young and still has so much to learn.

“For me, he also needs to offer more when he’s inside the box. That’s me speaking as a former No 9 who knows what it’s like to play in an Old Firm team that creates a lot of chances.

“Dessers has been coming off the bench recently but he still continues to find the net. He’s well on his way to surpassing last season’s tally of 22 [goals]. There will be interest in Desserts. We’ve already seen half a dozen struggling Italian clubs linked with him.”

If Rangers want to have a chance of making it straight to the knockout stage, they must win their last UEFA Europa League group phase match against Union Saint-Gilloise.
