Chelsea's 45-year-old manager, Enzo Maresca, was left speechless after a Brazilian journalist challenged his claims about the number of games played by Fluminense.

Fluminense and Chelsea faced off at MetLife Stadium tonight on Tuesday night for a place in the Club World Cup final, with the Blues coming out with a 2-0 victory.

João Pedro, Chelsea's new signing, scored the two goals of the game, sending the Blues to the final of the Club World Cup.

Chelsea's official press conference took place Monday night, where Enzo Maresca spoke in both English and Spanish.

The interaction between Maresca and the press produced a memorable moment, thoroughly enjoyed by the Brazilians, as reported by GSP.

"It's interesting, many say that European teams aren't very interested in this competition, but I saw Pep Guardiola very upset when he lost. I saw Simone Inzaghi very, very sad, head down, when he lost. Palmeiras' Abel Ferreira was crucified after their defeat."

A South American journalist asked the Chelsea manager, "I wanted to understand if this Club World Cup is as important for Chelsea, PSG, Real Madrid, as I imagine it is?"

In his response, the Italian mentioned the number of games Chelsea had played this season, attempting to highlight the difference compared to their opponents' workload. The problem? He hadn't checked the data beforehand and was caught off guard!

"Not that it's not important to me, but we've entered this tournament with two different situations. How many official matches have the Brazilian teams played this season? We've played 63 matches. So European teams have approached this competition differently than Brazilian and South American teams, because of the number of games we've played."

But we want to win, just like you do. But the thing is, we come here in different conditions. We came here after playing over 60 matches, you came here after playing…?" Maresca asked, and the reporter instantly replied: "70! 70 in the same period. That's more games!"

Maresca didn't continue the conversation, just nodded bewildered, and Chelsea's press officer promptly intervened and requested the next question.

Sofascore Brazil presented the exact number of matches played by all the Club World Cup semi-finalists since the summer of 2024. Fluminense tops the list with 72, Chelsea last with 62!
