SSC Napoli have won their first match in five matches in the Serie A, with Victor Osimhen expected unavailable.

Serie A champions SSC Napoli returned to winning ways following a dramatic late win against Salernitana on Saturday.

Amir Rrahmani was the hero as Napoli left it late to defeat their visitors 2-1 at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Naples, with Victor Osimhen not in action.

Napoli went into the game with no win in their last four matches in the Italian Serie A and looked poised to drop further points after 90 minutes.

As reported by Pulse Sports, Napoli players were locked away in a hotel room by owner disappointed owner Aurelio De Laurentiis after falling off the title pace in the Serie A.

In a drastic move, Napoli owner De Laurentiis has taken the players to a week-long retreat known as ‘ritiro’, which means ‘withdraw'.

However, Antonio Candreva handed Salernitana a shock lead after 29 minutes as things looked to remain the same before Matteo Politano fired Napoli level from the spot just before the break.

After 90 minutes, Napoli looked set to continue their winless streak as the away side defended stoutly and seemed deserving of a share of the spoils.

But Rrahmani emerged as the ultimate hero when he netted the decisive winner six minutes into added time to give the champions a much-needed win and breather.

The home side were once again with their Nigerian star, Osimhen, who is away on International duty with Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

The 25-year-old and his Napoli side lifted the title for the first time in 33 years last season but have put up a tepid title defence so far in the new campaign.

With Osimhen in Cote d’Ivoire for the 2023 AFCON, Napoli have now ended a run of five matches without a win as the move by the club owner seems to have worked.

Despite the victory, Napoli remain way off the title races as they sit 17 points adrift of leaders, Inter Milan, who are at Monza later on Saturday.
