"I keep saying this thing to everybody. In this moment in Rome, I have boys, 18 years that they played their first game with me and grew up with me but they are 18. I have boys of 40 which are still my boys and will always be my boys, so your boy asks you, you do it.

Mikel responded to Mourinho's kind words by acknowledging the special relationship and admitting it still carries on to this day even after his retirement from football.

"I am still his boy, you’re always our boss, you’re like a father to me, always been like a father to me since the first day I came to the club," Mikel said.

Mikel continued, "I always remember you brought me to the club so for me I will always be in debt to you, I always appreciate everything you did to me and my career as well."

Jose Mourinho and Mikel John Obi were together for two spells at Chelsea where the Nigerian played for 10-and-a-half years.
