Ghanaian international Jerome Opoku has singled out Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen as the most formidable opponent he has ever faced in his career.

The praise comes as Osimhen, who currently plays for Galatasaray, continues to attract attention across Europe.

The Nigerian international was recently nominated for the 2025 CAF Player of the Year award after an impressive season with Galatasaray.

His club manager, Okan Buruk, clearly stated that the Super Eagles star is worth more than the amount that was paid for him.

Opoku, who plays as a centre-back for Turkish club İstanbul Başakşehir, acknowledged that the prolific forward demands absolute concentration from defenders throughout a match.

The defender recently helped Ghana secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and has faced numerous top strikers, but mentioned the unique challenge posed by the Super Eagles star.

"Osimhen has made me switch on… I need to be 100%," Opoku told RG. "If you give him one yard, he'll be off in behind you, so in terms of testing me and bringing the best out of me, I'd say he's been my toughest opponent."

The forward scored a brace in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night, taking his goals tally to five goals for the Lions this season.
