Senegal are showing the true nature of champions after completing the 2023 AFCON group stage with a perfect record of three wins from three matches

The defending champions of Africa Senegal continued to show their intent to become the first country to win back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations titles since Egypt with a comfortable win in their last group match against Guinea.

Senegal coast to easy win over Guinea

Despite already being guaranteed a place in the next round, Senegal still dominated their opponents for large spells of the match and waltzed to a 2-0 victory over Guinea, who moved into third place after the match but still made it through the group stage.

Goals from Abdoulaye Seck and Iliman Ndiaye were enough to help the Teranga Lions to a deserved victory and leave them top of Group C with nine points from a possible nine.

The defending champions will now face one of the best third-placed teams from either Group A, B, or F as they look to make history in Ivory Coast.

Senegal and Guinea's opponents in the round of 16

Senegal could face tournament hosts Ivory Coast in the next round if the Elephants are lucky enough to make it through after finishing third in Group A, but they could also face one of Zambia, DR Congo or Tanzania from Group F.

Guinea’s four points total means official elimination for Ghana as the Syli Nacional become the first team to qualify for the second round via the best losers route.

They will face Equatorial Guinea, who shocked the continent by topping a competitive Group A that also included Nigeria and Ivory Coast.
