Gor Mahia's Ronald Ngala recounts club's resilience amid financial struggles in the 2000s, highlighting perseverance and eventual success.

Gor Mahia official Ronald Ngala has shed light on the arduous journey the club endured during the early 2000s.

Ngala, a pivotal figure in Gor Mahia's history with over two decades of service in various capacities, provided valuable insights into the challenges faced by the club, particularly regarding financial stability.

Speaking candidly during a recent public address, Ngala revealed the extent of the hardships encountered, highlighting the club's perseverance despite the odds.

"I have seen it all since I joined Gor Mahia in 2005. At some point, I was everything. I had a small Toyota Corolla, and the players would check if the nose of that vehicle could peep at City Stadium because they knew they could get some money to go home," Ngala recounted, reflecting on the resourcefulness and determination that characterized the club during trying times.

Amidst the struggles, Gor Mahia remained steadfast, refusing to succumb to the challenges that threatened its existence.

Ngala's testimony encapsulates the spirit of resilience that has defined Gor Mahia throughout its storied history.

"We would train at Majimbo, a dodgy place near City Stadium, but Gor Mahia did not die. What I can say is, when you join Gor, join it wholeheartedly. There could be small struggles here and there, but the future is very bright," Ngala affirmed, echoing the unwavering optimism that continues to drive the club forward.

In recognition of Gor Mahia's enduring legacy, Ngala recently spearheaded the establishment of Gor Mahia Queens, a ladies' team aimed at further expanding the club's footprint in Kenyan football.

Reflecting on the club's tumultuous past, Ngala acknowledged the pivotal moment in 2002 when Gor Mahia faced the prospect of relegation.

However, the steadfastness and grit of the players, officials, and supporters ensured that Gor Mahia emerged stronger, laying the foundation for future success.

Since then, Gor Mahia has cemented its status as a dominant force in Kenyan football, clinching eight league titles in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2018–19, 2019–20, and 2022–23, respectively.

Currently, Gor Mahia sits atop the league table, poised to maintain its lead as they prepare to face Nairobi City Stars in Machakos this Saturday at 3 pm.
